New Concept Car: Peugeot iOn

Consider the Peugeot i0n one small step in bringing Mitsubishi closer to its goal of making the all-electric i-MiEV profitable.

Why? The i0n was, as you may have guessed, developed with Mitsubishi. The small four-seat vehicle makes a total of 64 hp, 133 lb-ft of torque, and has an 80 mph top speed -- clearly, this car will best perform in the city.

That positioning is affirmed by its limited 80-mile range, possible after a full charge of the lithium-ion batteries mounted below the floorboards.

The i0n will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show and will go on sale by the end of 2010. Of course, that's not for U.S. consumption. That's OK, as Mitsubishi has already confirmed the i-MiEV will head to the U.S. ... at some point. By the time that happens, it's unclear how much the car will cost, but Mitsubishi has said it would need to sell 30,000 units a year (eventually) to make the car profitable.
